UnitedHealthcare has redesigned its Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to help members quickly identify the amount their health plan pays and the amount they owe their provider. The new EOB design will also show consumer accounts payments more prominently.
The reader-friendly format will show the claim detail with more white space, clearer type, and shaded boxes to highlight important claim and payment information.Until the new EOBs are launched in late March, EOBs will be generated as usual and contain all the notices required by the recent Health Care Reform legislation.
Key changes to the new member EOB include:
- Improved headings that explain what the member is viewing
- New Claim Summary section that identifies amounts and definitions
- Improved Claim Detail section with clear math and itemized member responsibility
- The summary section will show the math with details on how much the plan pays, amount the consumer account pays (if applicable), plan discounts and any amount the member may owe their provider.
